Sheriff Andrew J. Smith has declared a Level One Snow Emergency for Logan County. The snow emergency is in effect as of Friday at 11:20 p.m.
A Level One Emergency means that roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy. Caution should be used when driving.

State troopers say weather caused a slide-off accident at I-70 westbound and State Route 72 in Clark County early Saturday morning. An SUV hauling a camper went off the road after winds began to whip the camper around. The vehicle ended up into a guardrail.
No one was hurt.

Three major fires in Greenville in four years, it's about time to re-establish a "fire starter" program aimed at children that have a possible problem with playing with fire, said Greenville Police Detective Eric Roberts.
His comments came during the discussion of the latest fire, October 30, 2011 at Miami Valley Vending Service on Martin Street in Greenville.
A 9-year-old boy was charged with aggravated arson, but recently a juvenile judge in Darke County found the lad not competent to stand trial.
Other fires date back to September 2007 on Montgomery Street in a multiple death residential fire. A 9-year-old also charged with setting that blaze.
Then on July 16, 2010 two teens were charged with starting a fire in downtown Greenville. They were bored on a Friday night. Prior to setting what ended up as a huge fire, the pair had started a number of dumpster fires in the downtown area.
Both 18-year-olds are in prison.

One person was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning after hitting a tree at West Water Street and Vine. No word on the severity of the injuries.
Also in Darke County, no injuries were reported when a vehicle hit a house on Greenville-St. Mary's Brock Road. Damage to the house was minimal.

More than 150 residents in the areas of Englewood, Trotwood and Miamisburg were without power Friday night, according to Dayton Power & Light Director of Operations Judy Blair.
The outage is affecting Salem Bend Drive and Ohio 49 area in the Trotwood/Englewood area, and east side of Byers Road in Miamisburg, said Blair.
DP&L says the problem involved underground cables. Power was restored to Trotwood around 12:18 a.m. Saturday.
Power was back on in Miamisburg by 1:23 a.m. Saturday.

A three-vehicle accident Friday evening on Ohio 49 left two people injured, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Graeme Mitchell, 50, of Arcanum, was waiting to make a left turn from northbound 49 to westbound Grubbs Rex Road when he was struck from behind by another vehicle at about 5:35 p.m.
The impact pushed his 2006 Ford Mustang into the path of a southbound vehicle.
There were two people in the southbound vehicle, Garry and Diane Crowe of Greenville. Brandon Vanata, 19 of Greenville, was driving the Ford Focus that struck Mitchell's vehicle.
Two people were taken to Wayne Healthcare in Greenville suffering from minor injuries, but deputies did not indicate which individuals were injured.
Deputies did not consider snow to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

Two people were taken to Miami Valley Hospital on Friday night following a wreck on eastbound U.S. 35 near Abbey Avenue.
Police say the driver of an SUV was heading west on U.S. 35 when that person apparently lost control of the vehicle, drove through the median and into oncoming traffic. The SUV hit a pole and then a Grand Am sedan that was headed east into Dayton.
The collision left the SUV huddled against the wall along eastbound 35 -- facing the wrong way.
The crash that was reported at about 7:45 tonight did not involve alcohol or drugs, police say, and both drivers appear to have suffered injuries that were not life threatening.
Police did say that the driver of the SUV would be given a citation for failure control.
A city of Dayton road maintenance crew is on the scene, cleaning up debris. Police reopened the right two lanes of traffic along 35 east at about 8:36 p.m. The extreme left lane will remain closed for a time as part of the investigation into the wreck.

The driver of a small red two-door car was able to get himself out of his overturned car late Friday afternoon on Miamisburg Centerville Road near Interstate 75.
According to police, the man had exited I-75 north and was going to turn right onto Miamisburg Centerville Road
when another vehicle pulled in front of his car.
He tried to avoid the collision, hit a short wall of some sort, and overturned his car. The driver was taken to Sycamore Hospital for observation, police said.
The other driver apparently kept going.

A 61-year-old man the Ohio attorney general said has been targeting the elderly is being sought by law enforcement after he was indicted Friday on a charge of felony theft accusing him of stealing $21,000 from a Champaign County couple.
Mike DeWine and county Prosecutor Nick Selvaggio announced the indictment accusing Terry R. Langston, 61, previously of Jacksonville, Fla. The indictment was the result of a collaborative investigation by the Economic Crimes Division of DeWine's Consumer Protection Section and the county sheriff's office.
"Criminals who target elderly victims are simply reprehensible," said DeWine. "My office will continue to work with law enforcement and prosecutors around Ohio to find these people and put them in prison."
Langston was recently indicted by a Champaign County grand jury on a charge of theft from the elderly, a felony. According to investigators, Langston took more than $21,000 from a couple to pave their driveway. After spreading a thin layer of crumbling asphalt, Langston quickly cashed the couple's check and fled town.
"The prosecutor's office is committed to being vigilant in prosecuting crimes against our elderly citizens," Selvaggio said. "The current economic climate exposes our senior citizen community as especially vulnerable. Partnering with the Attorney General's Office allows us to aggressively pursue those who exploit and victimize our senior citizens."
An attorney from DeWine’s Economic Crimes Division has been appointed as a special prosecutor for the case.
Meantime, the Champaign County Common Pleas Court has issued a warrant for Langston's arrest. Prosecutors have learned that he is also wanted on a charge of felony theft in Ellis County, Kan., for allegedly victimizing another elderly couple with a similar scam. Langston's whereabouts are unknown.

The New York & Company store at the Mall at Fairfield Commons has closed – the third specialty clothing store at that mall to leave this year.
Bruce Goldsberry, general manager of the Mall at Fairfield Commons, said he has other retailers who are interested in the empty spaces and hopes to announce new tenants in the next month or two.
The retail spaces “will be filled this year,” Goldsberry said this afternoon. New York & Company operates two other Dayton-area stores, at the Greene in Beavercreek and in the Dayton Mall.

A former University of Cincinnati basketball player and his ex-girlfriend have been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison and ordered to pay $2.7 million in restitution for committing mortgage fraud.
Anthony O. Buford, 42, and Jolie O. Neal, 47, were sentenced Tuesday in Senior U.S. District Judge Sandra S. Beckwith’s court, the FBI announced and U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Buford, who was also an announcer for Bearcat TV games on Fox Sports Ohio until last season, and Neal pleaded guilty on June 8 to one count of conspiracy to commit mail, wire and bank fraud.
The Mason residents admitted to a scheme in which they defrauded nine lending institutions between 2004 and 2007. They would obtain additional mortgages on three properties they owned and keep the money rather than paying off existing loans.
According to court documents, the pair met in 2003 when Buford worked for Dynus Financial and Neal owned Tri-State Title Company.
“Buford and his co-conspirator Jolie Neal were insiders in the mortgage business and therefore, were able to manipulate the system to their benefit,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Barry wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed with the court.
Neal’s attorney, Ted Froncek, said their undoing was a divorcing couple from which they purchased one of their homes. The wife reopened a line of credit on the house they sold to Buford and Neal. An eventual foreclosure revealed the fraudulent mortgages.

A Centerville man reported missing has spoken to detectives and his son this afternoon by phone and reportedly is fine, police said.
Gerry Allen Walters, 53, is an insulin-dependent diabetic who was reported missing Thursday after his family told police they last saw him about noon on Monday driving a maroon 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada.
Police on Thursday said a caller from the residence where Walters apparently was staying indicated that Walters was on his way to a store.
After the chat with detectives and the son, both police and the son said all is well. Walters contacted a relative police spoke with on Thursday and the relative told Walters to call Centerville police, which he did Friday afternoon, Officer John Davis said.
“He told us that he was fine,” Davis said. “We are still going to physically speak with him, but our sense of urgency to find him has dropped way back from this point.”

A Richmond man who invaded a home and beat the another man who was inside is headed to prison for two decades.
As part of an agreement, 19-year-old Scott Hofacker pleaded guilty to robbery and burglary charges, but a battery charge was dropped.
A judge sentenced Hofacker on Thursday to 20 years in prison.
In May, Hofacker and two other suspects broke into a house on Lincoln Street and beat the man inside before stealing his wallet.

Power lines were knocked down on Friday and blocked a road after a one-vehicle crash in the 4300 block of Ohio 123 near West Pekin Road.
Around 1:50 p.m. Friday, a car struck a pole and caused power lines to fall down, Warren County dispatchers said. Franklin Twp. fire and medic crews responded, but no injuries were reported, according to dispatchers.
Dispatchers said the area of Ohio 123 was closed to traffic. Officials said power outage were reported along the roadway and into Franklin.

Two people were taken to an area hospital this afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in front of The Rib House.
According to police, a white Ford truck hit the passenger side of a white minivan around 1:10 p.m. at 275 East National Road.
The injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.
Weather is nott believed to be a factor in the crash.

WASHINGTON — Senior administration officials tell The Associated Press that President Barack Obama on Friday will announce that religious employers will not have to cover birth control for their employees after all. He will demand instead that insurance companies will be the ones ultimately responsible for providing free contraception.
Obama's abrupt retreat is an attempt to address concerns from Catholic leaders and end an election-year nightmare for the White House.
Women will still get guaranteed access to birth control without co-pays or premiums no matter where they work.
But religious organizations that see contraception as a violation of their faith can refuse to cover it, and insurance companies will then have to do so.
Senior administration officials confirmed details to the AP on condition of anonymity ahead of an announcement by Obama.

A Cincinnati Bengals linebacker was cited for allegedly throwing a punch during a fight at a downtown Cincinnati bar last weekend.
Cincinnati police have cited Ray Maualuga, 25, with assault, according to reports. He is accused of punching another man in the face in the 600 block of Main Street early Sunday morning.
Maualuga is scheduled to appear in court next Friday. The player was also arrested in 2010 on a DUI charge.

The sign on the front of a Trotwood bank caught fire Friday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m., firefighters responded to Fifth Third Bank, 2250 Shiloh Springs Road and extinguished a fire on the signage above the bank's doors.
No one was injured.
